Wyoming is home to the Arapaho Tribe of the Wind River Reservation and the Shoshone Tribe of the Wind River Reservation. It is also the traditional homeland of many other tribes.

Overview

You can register to vote in Wyoming by mail or in person. If you are registering to vote by mail, your application must be notarized. Additionally, you must include a copy of your acceptable ID. The registration deadline is October 24. However, you may register in person for same day voting. Early voting is by absentee ballot only, and you must contact your County Clerk by mail or phone to request a ballot. You must bring a photo ID with you to vote. Please see below for acceptable forms of voter identification.

Registering to Vote

  • The voter registration deadline is October 24. However, you can still register in person and cast an absentee ballot October 25 through November 7.

  • To register to vote, you need an acceptable form of ID and a residential address in the county for which you are registering. Acceptable forms of ID include:

    • Tribal ID

    • U.S. Passport

    • U.S. Military Card

    • Driver's license or ID card (from Wyoming or another state)

    • University of Wyoming Student ID; Wyoming Community College Student ID; Wyoming Public School Student ID;

    • Valid Medicare Insurance card

    Alternatively, two or more of the following documents together count as proof of identity:

    • certification of U.S. citizenship

    • certificate of naturalization

    • U.S. Military Draft Record

    • voter's registration card from another state or county

    • U.S. Social Security Card

    • certification of birth abroad issued by the Department of State

    • original or certified copy of a birth certificate bearing an official seal

    • or any other form of identification issued by an official agency of the U.S. or a state.

  • Wyoming requires either a residential address or the address of a location to which you regularly return. You may also provide a mailing address. You may not provide the address of a P.O. Box for your residential address.

  • Yes. Print and fill out a voter registration application. If you register by mail, you must have your application form notarized before mailing it and include a copy of your acceptable ID. Mail your application to your County Clerk's office.

  • Yes, if you have never been convicted of a felony.

    If you have been convicted of a felony, the rules on regaining your right to vote are complicated and your eligibility depends on the type and amount of felonies of which you have been convicted. You must request to have your voting rights restored. Call your Secretary of State at (307) 777-5860 to confirm your eligibility. You may also contact the Wyoming Department of Corrections at (307) 777-5983, or visit their website.

Checking & Updating Voter Registration

  • You cannot check your voter registration online. Call your County Clerk.

  • If you moved within your county or changed your name, you must notify your County Clerk. Find their contact information. If you have moved to a different Wyoming county, you have to re-register to vote by mail or in person in that county. Please see the registration section above for necessary documents.

Voting by Mail/Absentee/Ballot Drop-Off

  • If you registered to vote by mail and are voting by absentee ballot for the first time, you must enclose a copy of your photo ID or document bearing your name and residence address in the envelope with your voted ballot.

  • Yes. Please check that you have filled out all required fields and signed your ballot. USPS recommends you mail in your ballot a week before the deadline to ensure your ballot is received on time. However, please factor in your personal experience with mail delivery times to and from your place of residence or where you drop off your ballot.

  • The deadline for requesting a mail-in ballot is November 7. However, please request your ballot as soon as possible and allow time to mail it in, unless you plan on dropping it off at your County Clerk's office.

  • Absentee voting begins September 29. Ballots will be sent out as soon as possible if you register and request a ballot after this date.

  • You can have your ballot sent to any mailing address you provide to your County Clerk when requesting a ballot.

Voting In-Person

  • You can find your polling place on this website. However, the website is not yet up to date for the General Election. We will keep monitoring this issue and update as soon as we can.

  • You can vote early through the absentee ballot process. Contact your County Clerk to request an absentee ballot.

  • Yes. If you do not have proper ID when voting or your voting eligibility is challenged, you can vote a provisional ballot. Your ballot will be counted if you are able to provide ID to your Election Office before the close of business on November 9.

  • Yes. Under federal law (Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act), you are entitled to bring anyone you trust, such as a friend, family member, or neighbor, to the polling place AND into the polling booth to assist with voting. However, that person may not be your employer, running in the election, or a representative of your labor union. The person giving assistance also may not tell the voter how to vote.
